Fall Leaves!!

You may remember soon after Mike and I moved to Colorado we took a trip along the Highway of Legends, also known as Highway 12. It has some really fantastic views and is a pleasant drive. The Highway of Legends is about a two hour loop that takes you through several small towns beginning/ending here in Trinidad. On Friday Mike and I took the drive again in hopes of seeing some Fall leaves changing colors. We were in for a treat!

It was a really beautiful drive and I'm so glad we did it when we did! If we waited a little bit longer we might have missed it. Happy Monday and I wish you all a good week!

High Five for Friday!

It's Friday once again. The weeks seem to be going by pretty quickly! The weather here this week has been pretty warm, but the weatherman said this morning that after this weekend we will feel fall temps!

1. I made these apple pie cookies for Mike's class this week. They are not the quickest or easiest cookies to make, but they sure were delicious!!

2. Wednesday was the finale of Big Brother. The guy I wanted to win did, so I was pleased with the ending.
Big Brother 16 Finale
3. We got a sweet package from Mike's Aunt Connie on Thursday. It had a really nice note along with candy for Mike and these awesome kitchen towels for me!! Thanks Aunt Connie!!!!!!!

4. This afternoon Mike and I are going to the End of the Season Lunch at work. The summer season is offically coming to a close so we are having a little get together to say bye. This will be Mike's last weekend working, and I still have three more to go.

5. Mike and I are going on a little date night today. We're taking a drive up to the higher elevations to hopefully see some changing fall leaves!! Of course I will have my camera with me and I plan to share some pictures on Monday.

Have a great weekend!!

Fall is Here!!

It's officially fall and my favorite time of year!! I'm especially excited this year because we'll actually get to experience a real fall! I can't wait to see changing colors and cooler temps. My mom sent me a couple fall related decor items in her latest care package and I simply couldn't wait any longer to fallify (it's not a word, I made it up) our house! Take a peek...

Once we get into October I have a few more things to put out that are more on the Halloween side. I'm also thinking of doing a new Halloween wreath and posting a tutorial on the blog! Happy Wednesday!

FRIDAY!!!

It's Friday!!! I've had a really great couple of weeks. School is going well for both Mike and I, and working is slowly coming to an end for both of us. He has two more weekends and I have four. There's lots to talk about so let's get started...

1. Our friends Jim and Lindsay have chickens (so jealous!) and they gave us some fresh eggs!!

2. I don't know if you remember or not, but in February I dropped my phone in a bucket of water while cleaning the house. I had the insurance and was sent a replacement phone (side note - I didn't realize the replacement phones are refurbished phones). The camera on the "new" phone stopped working about two weeks after getting it. I should have just sent it back right away, but didn't feel like dealing with it so I just haven't had a camera on my phone since March. Then slowly other little things stopped working here and there, so needless to say I was eagerly awaiting for my upgrade time to come. Well it finally came!! I'm a proud owner of a new phone!!! It's an LG G2 and so far I'm loving it.

3. I decided it was time for a little change and got my hair cut. It came out shorter than what I was originally expecting, but I really like it. I was hoping this new hair cut might make me look a little older (you wouldn't believe the number of people who ask me what high school I go to), but I think no such luck...oh well. I do have bangs, but I'm still trying to figure out how to style them so they are pulled back in this picture.

4. My Simplified Planner by Emily Ley arrived this week! I went with the weekly edition because I'm just not sure I'm busy enough for a daily one. I can't wait to start using the planner in the new year. It's nice that the cover is hard, so I know I can throw it in my purse and no pages will be bent. Plus, it sure is nice to look at too!

5. Have you seen these ridiculously cute stamps??

6. I have been pining for some cowboy boots all summer and finally decided to get a pair while they were on sale!! I just love them! Plus they have been making my closet smell like leather!

5. I recently read "The Joy of Less" by Francine Jay and got motivated to go through every room in our house and declutter/reorganize. It took most of my free time last week, but we did it. It feels so much better in here to have everything a little more simplified and in it's place!! We have quite a few bags and boxes to take to Good-Will, so Mike and I are using it as an excuse to head to Pueblo (about an hour and a half from Trinidad, and the closest Good-Will location). We are planning to stop and eat lunch at a delicious BBQ place we ate at last time we were there!

I would like to wish a happy birthday to my good friend Reina who celebrated her birthday on Tuesday and to my beautiful cousin, Kamella, who's birthday is tomorrow!! Also, USF has a football game tonight so let's hope they do better than they have the past two games...GO BULLS!! Happy weekend everyone!

My First Quilt: Finally Completed!

I started working on my very first quilting project soon after moving to Colorado, which now has been about nine months ago (time flies!). You can read my first two blog posts about it here and here. I never would have guessed it would take me this long to get it done, but I've really procrastinated on these final steps. Sewing the top quilt was the fun part of the project, actually doing the quilting part was really stressful! I was so scared of messing up! All I can say was that it was a really good learning experience. I now know a few things I'll do differently next time around. Overall, I'm really pleased with the outcome. It really looks like a quilt!

It might be a little too colorful for some, but that's what I really enjoy about it. All the colors make me smile when I see them! I had a wonderful time working on this project and already have ideas for more. You know I'll keep you updated!

High Five for Friday

Happy High Five for Friday everyone!!

1.
I have some herbs, spinach, and two kinds of lettuces growing! They are starting to look good.

2.

We have an apple tree in our back yard. This little guy is working on growing nice and big. Our neighbor says they aren't very good for eating and that squirrels usually get to them first anyways, but they still look pretty.

3.
These lovely flowers also popped up in the backyard. All the colors make me a happy girl!

4.
I painted my nails earlier this week. The color is a little lighter than I was expecting, but I still like it. I was trying to pick out something to get me the fall mood.

5.
Mike's mom has officially booked a flight to come and visit us in November. Let the countdown begin!! I could not be more excited for her to get here!!!

Hope you all have a great weekend!
